Acid Reflux Treatments

What is Infant Acid Reflux?

Does your baby spit up a lot or is he or she irritable quite often? It is such a common problem among babies. Up to fifty percent of all infants will experience this at some point in the first three months of their lives. Infant acid reflux usually occurs just after a feeding. It can occur though anytime your baby coughs or cries as well. In most cases, the problem will disappear by the time the child is twelve to eighteen months old.

Generally, changing the feeding technique can usually have a positive effect on the infant acid reflux problem of your child. Some things to try with your child to help rid them of the problem include the following:

  • Smaller feedings
  • Changing the child's position during feeding
  • Burping the child more often
  • More frequent feedings

These are some things to try at home to help with your child's infant acid reflux. If you find that this does not help, then consult with your pediatrician. They will help you come up with a course of action.

Spitting up among infants is actually quite common, but it does not always signify infant acid reflux. For most babies though, this condition causes no adverse effects on them. A very small percentage of babies could have a more serious condition known as gastro esophageal reflux disease.

Thus, if you suspect your baby of having a more serious problem than just a mild case of infant acid reflux after eating then please consult with your doctor.

There are certain symptoms that require immediate attention and could signify more than just infant acid reflux. These symptoms include the following:

  • Bad breath
  • Ear infections
  • Problems with swallowing
  • Drooling excessively
  • Constantly eating
  • Poor sleeping habits
  • Refusing to eat
  • Large amounts of spit up

These are some of the possible symptoms of infant acid reflux. If your child is frequently irritable while feeding or has poor feeding sessions then these could also be possible symptoms.

Mothers seldom notice reflux symptoms in their infants as compared to their concern about liposuction and plastic surgery of their body. They are bothered about laser hair removal and mundane issues like breast enlargement. An acne treatment is much more important for them.
